Text Link
Allows URL texts written in webpages to be loaded by double clicks.
Without this extension, when you discover an URL text not linked, like
"http://piro.sakura.ne.jp/", you have to do following steps to load the
page:
With this extension, you can load the URI only following one step:
- Select the URI text completely. (It may be a hard work if the page is rendered with a propotional font. This operation always chafes me.)
- Copy it. (press "Ctrl-C" or use "Copy" from the "Edit" menu)
- Paste it to the location bar.
- Press "Enter". Then, Firefox loads it.
OR
- Select the URL text completely. (It chafes me again!)
- Drag the selection string to the tab bar and drop it. Then, Firefox loads it.
Visit the Text Link's description page on Mozilla.
Double-click on the URL text. Then, Firefox loads it. I'm happy.
I suppose you are thinking, "Man, Joseph is addicted to Firefox!" I think you are correct. I am a junkie; to help substantiate this, I'm adding another extension to my list of cool must haves.
It's called Tab Effect. When you click on another tab, rather than just switching to that tab, it rotates from the previous tab to the new one as if in 3D. It makes browsing more fun than you thought could ever be! Not really. But its a nice touch.
If you have an older computer, this extension may not work for you.
What Dreams May Come!
I really am a Mozilla Firefox fan! I sometimes have to use IE7 and really dislike having to. It really does seem slower in every task. Because Microsoft dominates the planet in computer software for the personal computer, this creates problems for other companies who want to tap into the Internet too. Microsoft creates their own standards and forces others to reckon with it. I do appreciate Microsoft though because they are innovators and I love innovation. This love is one of my many weaknesses.
AdBlock Plus
But I will continue to lean toward Firefox. They are by far the most customizable browser i've ever seen/used. A recent extension I'm loving is AdBlock Plus and its sub-extensions providing new filter sets. It effectively blocks the provocative dating ads from MySpace. With a little customization, you can even have it show you transparent option tabs on all of a webpage's advertisements. This enables you to choose which content you want to see and which content you don't want to see ever again. At work, I have had Norton Internet Security block ads but it never really did a good job and customization was difficult to understand. AdBlock Plus seems easier to me.
All in the Family
This picture shows all of the extensions I currently use.
GoogleBrowserSync
Another of my favs is GoogleBrowserSync. This handy extension backs up my Bookmarks, History and other items (passwords too with encryption standard before uploading to your Google account). The benefit of this extension is when you have two computers, say a work computer and a laptop. GoogleBrowserSync synchronizes these settings between both computers. No more beating yourself up trying to remember where the site you visited two days ago!
If web ads are stubborn and you want to get rid of them, download this extension for Firefox https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1865/.
There are a few filters you can download from within the extension, but the cool part is if there’s an ad on the page you can click the Adblock icon (on or near the ad) to remove the ads permanently!
Enjoy!
For the Firefox users who have to open Internet Explorer to view certain pages, there are two handy extensions you may want to look into: IE Tab and IE View. The IE Tab allows you to view IE pages from within Firefox (FF), even to use Windows Update! The IE View allows you to specify which pages open specifically in IE (opens the IE browser).
Glad to hear that there are many FF users!
